The Settlement & Newcomers Support Program helps refugees, protected persons, immigrants, and new Canadians successfully integrate into their new communities.
The program offers culturally grounded, person-centred support to help newcomers navigate life in Canada with confidence, dignity, and stability.
Core Program Components
Orientation & Integration Support
- Welcome orientation sessions introduce newcomers to Canadian systems, rights, and responsibilities.
- Help understanding local laws, community norms, and settlement expectations
- Cultural bridging to help families adapt while preserving cultural identity
Government Services Navigation
- Assistance applying for essential documents such as health cards, SIN, and IDs
- Support accessing income support, childcare subsidies, housing programs, and provincial/federal benefits
- Help navigating healthcare, education, and social services
Housing Support & Referrals
- Guidance on finding safe, affordable housing
- Support understanding leases, tenant rights, and conflict resolution with landlords
- Referrals to emergency shelters or transitional housing when needed
Employment & Career Support
- Job-search assistance, resume writing, and interview preparation
- Referrals to training programs, job fairs, and employers
- Support for credential recognition and connecting newcomers to employment services
Language Support
- Referrals to LINC, ESL, and language tutoring programs
- Conversation circles to help newcomers practice English in a friendly environment
- Assistance understanding education pathways for children and adults
Community Connections & Social Inclusion
- Newcomer social events, cultural gatherings, and peer-support groups
- Mentorship programs linking newcomers with established community members
- Settlement support for youth, seniors, women, and families
Advocacy & Case Management
- One-on-one guidance for complex settlement cases
- Advocacy for clients facing barriers in housing, schools, healthcare, or workplaces
- Culturally safe support for vulnerable populations such as refugees and survivors of trauma
