ACESS Legal Literacy & Civic Integration
Empowering Newcomers Through Knowledge of Canadian Laws, Rights, and Responsibilities
The ACESS Legal Literacy & Civic Integration Program provides a proactive solution that helps immigrants understand Canadian laws before challenges arise. By investing in legal education and civic awareness, funders will help create safer communities, stronger integration outcomes, and more empowered newcomers across Canada.
The ACESS Legal Literacy & Civic Integration Program is a community education initiative developed by ACESS Canada to support immigrants and refugees in understanding Canadian laws, civic responsibilities, and social systems.
Many immigrants arriving in Canada come from countries where legal frameworks, governance systems, and enforcement mechanisms differ significantly from those in Canada. As a result, newcomers may unintentionally violate certain laws due to a lack of awareness or understanding of the legal and civic environment in their new country.
These unintentional violations can have serious consequences, including legal penalties, financial burdens, family challenges, loss of immigration status, or even incarceration.
The ACESS Legal Literacy & Civic Integration Program addresses this challenge through education, awareness, and community-based legal orientation, ensuring immigrants have the knowledge and tools they need to integrate successfully into Canadian society.
By empowering newcomers with accurate information about their rights, responsibilities, and legal obligations, the program helps protect individuals and families while strengthening social cohesion and public safety.
