CEO’s Note

Richard Nixon is a highly committed Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Personal Support Worker (PSW). His professional career is grounded in service, compassion, and community impact. He arrived in Canada as a refugee in 2023, bringing with me not only clinical expertise but also resilience forged through my lived experience.

During his settlement and integration journey, I encountered the complex realities faced by almost every newcomer and immigrant, including barriers to information, employment, healthcare access, and social inclusion—both before and after attaining permanent residency.

These experiences strengthened my resolve to transform personal challenges into collective solutions.

Guided by a deep sense of social responsibility, he teamed up with his partner, with whom they shared a similar ideology and started ACESS (African Community Empowerment & Support Services Alberta), a community-driven non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting immigrants, refugees, and newcomers as they navigate settlement and integration in Canada.

ACESS provides holistic services that address pre and post-permanent residency challenges, with a strong focus on settlement support, employment readiness, healthcare navigation, youth and family empowerment, and civic engagement.

Through visionary leadership, professional integrity, and lived experience, he continues to champion inclusive, equitable, and sustainable pathways that empower newcomers to achieve stability, dignity, and long-term success. His work reflects a steadfast belief that strong communities are built when individuals are supported, informed, and allowed to thrive.
